Day of Vesak 2025, May 12th.

The General Assembly, by its resolution 54/115 of 1999, recognized internationally the Day of Vesak to acknowledge the contribution that Buddhism, one of the oldest religions in the world, has made for over two and a half millennia and continues to make to the spirituality of humanity. This day is commemorated annually at the UN Headquarters and other UN offices, in consultation with the relevant UN offices and with permanent missions.

CONFERENCE: Under the main theme "Unity and Inclusivity for Human Dignity: Buddhist Insights for World Peace and Sustainable Development." Hosted by the National Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s Executive Council, the 20th United Nations Day of Vesak will be held form May 05th to May 09th.
The thematic discussions sub-theme are:

SUB-THEME 01 - Cultivating Inner Peace for World Peace.

SUB-THEME 02 - Forgiveness and Mindful Healing: A Path to Reconciliation.

SUB-THEME 03 - Buddhist Compassion in Action: Shared Responsibility for Human Development.

SUB-THEME 04 - Mindfulness in Education for a Compassionate and Sustainable Future.

SUB-THEME 05 - Fostering Unity: Collaborative Efforts for Global Harmony.

Statement of the United Nations Secretary-General for the Day of Vesak 2025, May 12th.

On this Day of Vesak, I extend my warmest wishes to Buddhists worldwide as they commemorate the birth, enlightenment, and passing of the Buddha.

The Buddha’s teachings of compassion, tolerance and selfless service resonate deeply with the values of the United Nations.

In an era of profound global challenges, these timeless principles must guide our shared path forward.

As we honour this sacred occasion, may we be inspired to bridge divides, foster solidarity, and work together towards a more peaceful, sustainable and harmonious world.
