Time of Remembrance and Reconciliation for Those Who Lost Their Lives During the Second World War, May 8-9.




 The United Nations General Assembly invited all Member States, organizations of the United Nations system, non-governmental organizations and individuals to observe these days in an appropriate manner to pay tribute to all victims of the Second World War. 




Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, in Russia for 'Victory Day' marking 70 years since the end of the Second World War in Europe and the sacrifice made by millions, met for discussions with President Vladimir Putin on world issues from the conflict in Ukraine to enhancing cooperation to tackle climate change.
“The Secretary-General and President Putin discussed in depth the way forward on Ukraine,” said a statement from Mr. Ban's spokesman's office.

The Secretary-General met today with H.E. Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation. The Secretary-General expressed his appreciation for the invitation to attend the “Victory Day” celebrations and commemorate the sacrifice and contribution of millions of people, 70 years ago.
