: "Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow." World Food Day 2026. Food is a basic human right.

Yet around 645 million people faced hunger last year.

And nearly 2.7 billion people cannot afford a healthy diet.

Overlapping shocks and crises are adding to these pressures.

Disrupting production and supply chains.

Driving up the cost of food and fertilizer.

And putting nutritious diets further out of reach for millions.

We have the knowledge, technology and capacity to feed the world.

It’s time to use it.

This year’s theme for World Food Day is “Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow.”

By harnessing data, innovation, and technology, including artificial intelligence, to ensure everyone can access nutritious food.

By bringing together scientists, researchers, innovators, farmers, Indigenous Peoples and youth to find solutions.

By mobilizing finance to make nutritious food more available and affordable, especially for developing countries.

By supporting the ecosystems and people that make food possible — in keeping with this International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists, and of the Woman Farmer.

And by building global and local food systems that are more productive and resilient.

Together, let us ensure that every person, everywhere, has access to safe, nutritious and affordable food.

United Nations Secretary-General.

Dear friends around the world, this year our world food day theme is innovate today, nourish tomorrow. The future of foods depend on the choice we make today.
In 2025, 645 million people still faced hunger and nearly one out of three people globally could not afford a healthy death. That is not a simple question of production. It is the question how to supply and how to consume.
The more important is because the food is not equally available, accessible or affordable. Too many farmers and communities especially small holders and in the rural areas remain beyond the reach of the knowledge technology investors and opportunities. Innovation deliver its greatest impact when it reached those who need it most. Innovation is the tool that turns challenges into opportunities that help to fulfill for betters. Innovation is about more than just the science and technology at BT OI. It is also about new practices, [music] business models, policies and way of the organizing and delivering services working together with transition [music] knowledge to ensure it is passed from one generation to the next. Innovation is about scaling this knowledge based solutions to build more efficient, more inclusive, more resilient and more sustainable a good systems. In 2026, FAO lead the United Nations International Year of the Women's farmer and the international year of the Rangland and Pastoralist. A
reminder that the innovation must reach everyone everywhere from women's farmer who are vital to food security and rural livelihoods to pastoralistic communities who sustain people livestock and the landscape in some of the world's most challenging environments.
At FAO we continue to work together with members and partners to support the countries with data science technical expertise policy guidance and investment. We have created enabling environments that allow the pro innovations to deliver results at scale through the world food forum and it's three pillars the science and innovation forum the hand inhand investment forum and the youth forum we bring together governments researchers investors young people producers and the community turning ideas into initiatives and solutions to action with impact partnerships. The investment provider is a bridge. Ensuring that the agriculture innovation is adopted today is an investment in the food security, resilience and the prosperity of tomorrow. Together we can ensure the four betters. Better production, better nutrition, a better environment, better life, leaving no one behind. Together, let us innovate today to nourish tomorrow for a better world.
Happy wonderful day to all and thank you.

Director General of the FAO.
