International Translation Day 2025; September 30th.

FORUM: "Translation, shaping a future you can trust." International Translation Day 2025. In turbulent times, where peace often hangs in the balance and global communications and relations are infiltrated by a lack of trust, the ITD 2025 theme will highlight the important role of human trust. Specifically, the role of translators, interpreters and terminologists in ensuring trustworthy communication, building dialogue and trust between parties and providing oversight to AI-generated text and machine translation. “AI and the Trust Equation: Rethinking Education and Training in the Age of Intelligent Systems” How do we ensure translators, interpreters and terminologists are not just surviving the AI shift — they’re actively shaping a trustworthy future for the profession. In its Resolution for 2025 as International Year of Peace and Trust, the United Nations General Assembly further recognised the need to prevent and resolve conflict through dialogue and diplomacy. While the interpreters in global negotiations may not be visible, we know that such high-stakes conversations could not happen without them and could certainly not be entrusted to technology. EVENT: International Translation Day 2025 Webinar.

On Monday, September 29, 2025 starting at 2pm Paris (UTC+2); 8am New York; 8pm Beijing; 10pm Sydney, a webinar will be organized by the External Relations Standing Committee of FIT. Join us online via ZOOM to mark the International Translation Day 2025, featuring a panel discussion and Q&A. This webinar will explore the effects of AI on training for the profession, and how educators can equip the next generation of translators and interpreters to master AI tools, uphold professional ethics, and remain essential voices in shaping a multilingual, trustworthy future.

English language Day 2023; March 23rd.

FORUM: “Promote the use of English.” English language Day 2023; Because the United Nations has only six official languages, many delegates must speak in a language other than their main language, and this poses a special challenge. The history of the UN’s official languages, presented by the Dag Hammarskjöld Library, gives the history of when each of the six official languages of the United Nations became official, beginning in 1946. CONCERT: The United Nations Singers are a recreational choir formed in 1947 under the UN Staff Recreation Council to spread the message of harmony and understanding through music. As a microcosm of the world, the group is composed largely of present and former staff of the UN and its agencies and permanent missions.

FORUM: A World without barriers - the role of language professionals in building culture, understanding and lasting peace. International Translation Day 2022. 

The theme of the International Translation Day (ITD) 2022 is "A World Without Barriers". Join us promote the day and celebrate the professions.

The importance of translated information goes far beyond the conference room. Translations of major documents are often cited by the media, quoted in statements and incorporated into legislation.

English Language Day 2022; April 23rd.

"Honoring William Shakespeare " English Language Day 2022.

He then wrote mainly tragedies until 1608, among them Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Othello, King Lear, and Macbeth, all considered to be among the finest works in the English language.

The UN Chamber Music Society is proud to present a concert in support of the Helen Sawaya Fund, a philanthropy program headquartered at Mount Sinai Health System, whose mission is to enhance the experience of cancer patients using complementary therapies which include music therapy. 

Music, which symbolizes peace and hope, also holds the power to help in alleviating pain, easing side-effects, while reducing physical and emotional stress.  Founded in 2016, the UN Chamber Music Society is dedicated to promoting the United Nations' goals and values at large - through the universal language of music.
