FORUM: "Beyond the Catch: Advancing towards Dignity and Decent Work for All in the Sector" World Fisheries Day 2025. The theme this year will highlight the importance of fair labor practices and social protection for fishers. Fisheries and aquaculture provide livelihoods for millions worldwide and are crucial to the economies of coastal and rural areas. Yet, many fishers continue to face unsafe conditions, low wages, and limited access to social protection. Every year on November 21st, the world celebrates World Fisheries Day to recognize the crucial contribution of fishers and fish workers to food security, employment, and sustainable development. The day serves as a reminder of the urgent need to protect their human and labour rights, ensuring fair, safe, and dignified working conditions across the sector. Celebrating World Fisheries Day is a tribute to the work of fishers and fish workers, as well as a call to strengthen decent work, social dialogue, and sustainability in the sector. Their work must be valued and safeguarded through policies and partnerships that ensure fair, safe, and dignified employment, gender equality, and social justice for sustainable fisheries and aquaculture.

EVENTS: On November 21st, to mark the World Fisheries Day, the FAO is organizing a virtual event. In celebration of World Fisheries Day 2025, FAO GLOBEFISH is organizing a virtual event titled “Beyond the Catch: Advancing towards Dignity and Decent Work for All in the Sector”. The event will highlight the shared responsibility of all stakeholders in promoting labour rights and ensuring decent work within the fisheries and aquaculture sector to foster dialogue on how stronger governance, enhanced social protection, and greater international cooperation can improve the livelihoods and resilience of fishers and fish workers worldwide. The FAO also supports other events, such as the EAF-Nansen Programme's workshop in South Africa focused on scientific collaboration for sustainable fisheries. Register to participate!

The interaction between emerging and traditional forms of broadcast creates a great opportunity to raise awareness about the important issues facing our communities and our planet. World Philosophy Day 2024; November 21st.

FORUM: “Philosophy: bridging social gaps.” World Philosophy Day 2024. Philosophy brings us together, offering essential tools to address some of the greatest challenges facing humanity. In the context of the Management of Social Transformations (MOST)programme, UNESCO’s work on philosophy aims to promote humanist thinking as a response to social transformations and to encourage its use for impact on political dialogue. Philosophy allows to think collectively about the future of humanity - and to design a better world. Thursday’s World Philosophy Day is an opportunity to focus on the importance of reflection and critical thinking in building fairer, more equal, and inclusive societies—especially in times of crisis. On this Day of collective exercise in free, reasoned and informed thinking on the major challenges of our time, all of UNESCO’s partners are encouraged to organize various types of activities - philosophical dialogues, debates, conferences, workshops, cultural events and presentations around the general theme of the Day, with the participation of philosophers and scientists from all branches of natural and social sciences, educators, teachers, students, press journalists and other mass media representatives, and the general public. EVENTS: On November 20th, from 5:30 to 8:30 pm GMT at UNESCO Paris Conference Room I. The UNESCO will organize a panel discussion entitled " Philosophy: bridging social gaps" to mark the World Philosophy Day 2024 with the French National Commission for UNESCO. The round-tables will highlight philosophy's vital role in mending the social fabric and fostering a more cohesive society. The Opening remarks by H.E. Ambassador Mrs. Simona-Mirela Miculescu, followed by the Opening Speech by Mrs. Gabriela Ramos, Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences at UNESCO will open the session. A Keynote lecture entitled "Why we need a concept of social energy?" will be made by Mrs. Hartmut Rosa. A High-level plenary session entitled " Philosophy supporting Youth inclusion" with Mrs. Gabriela Ramos, Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Sciences of UNESCO, Mrs. Charlotte Casiraghi, Founder of Les Rencontres Philosophiques de Monaco, Mrs. Hartmut Rosa, philosopher and sociologist, Edwige Chirouter, philosopher and Chairholder of the UNESCO Chair Philosophy with children will be organized. A Youth introduction by the secondary students of the Maison de la Philosophie (Romainville) and the high schoolers from Quebec's Philo-Jeunes network; A Video message from Mrs Daniel Innerarity, titled " Philosophy helping to navigate the social divides created by AI" will be presented. Panel discussion entitled " Philosophy and Poverty: repairing social cohesion" with: Mr. Mario Pezzini, Senior consultant and special advisor for the MOST Programme (moderator), Mr. François Jomini from ATD Fourth World, Mrs. Amina Zakhnouf, co-founder of “Je m'engage pour l'Afrique” and investment Officer at the Fonds d'innovation pour le développement (Esther Duflo's fund) and Mrs. Júlia Casamasso Mattoso, brazilian philosopher, collaborator of ATD Quart Monde, councillor for the city of Petrópolis, Brazil. First-ever AI Summit at CERN in Geneva!

Industry leaders and expert speakers from across our Members will come together to discuss the opportunities and challenges for public service media in the age of AI. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is set to have a transformative impact on the media industry and the EBU is providing a one-stop shop to help public service media navigate developments in this space. The first AI Summit will bring together decision makers and AI-related stakeholders from across public service media (PSM) to exchange knowledge, build alignment and explore ways to embrace the opportunities as well as face the challenges presented by AI. This exclusive one-day conference will provide access to insights and opinions from across the industry and an opportunity to learn from peers. We'll be discussing how we can join forces to move faster and stronger in our response to AI developments whether at a strategic, ethical, legal, content, or technical level.

The AI Summit will take place on 1 December, alongside the EBU’s Winter General Assembly in Geneva. Directors General from our Members and General Assembly delegates will join for the morning session which will focus on the strategic challenges of AI for PSM. WEBINARS: Watch the plenary session entitled ’’Artificial Intelligence and the future of technologies: impact and opportunities ‘. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the most controversial technology topics today. While it has tremendous potential in improving work productivity and individual quality of life, there are also concerns of its unintended consequences such as built-in AI bias against diversity. Session speakers will discuss the latest AI trends, its usefulness and how to address the challenges regarding bias, especially on people with disabilities in the world of work.

Each year, a short clip is created by egta, ACT and The Global TV Group to promote the power of television. The three associations are asking their members (broadcasters all over Europe) to show this clip on TV on the 21st of November, to celebrate television.

AWARDS: ITU receives Emmy Award for HDR-TV – and transforming the world of television. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has once again taken centre stage in the world of television technology with the third Emmy Award for the ITU Radiocommunication Sector (ITU‑R). HDR-TV’s success is a result of experimentation, demonstration, technical collaboration and the sheer determination of the members of ITU‑R Study Group 6, which prepares international standards for radiocommunication broadcasting services, including vision, sound, multimedia and data services principally intended for delivery to the general public.

World Fisheries Day is celebrated on 21st November every year around the world. This day aims to highlight the value of human life and the creatures living in water. It tries to highlight the problems related to fisheries like overfishing, bad way of fishing and unsustainable fishing methods. Apart from this it also attempts to address the pollution problems in ocean and coastal areas. On this special day the participating members discuss these problems and come up with several corrective measures which can be implemented. Most of the countries, who are involved in fisheries development, are facing the problems of unequal distribution of fish stock. The main reason for the inadequacy is the rising world population and demand has been increased exponentially. Now on this day all the countries sent their representatives to show case their point of view on a world forum. There is a need of increased level cooperation among the members so that common solutions can be obtained.
